Writing in the International Herald Tribune (April 6, Asian edition), Seth Mydans says at least eight jounalists have been killed in recent years "in what appears to be a broad Sri Lankan government campaign to silence dissenting voices."
The press advocacy group Reporters Without Borders says Sri Lanka is the fourth most dangerous country for journalists, after Iraq, Somalia and Pakistan.
